Thursday March 23rd Matthew 18 : 19-20
For where two or three come together in my name, I am there with them.
What a promise!
When I first joined Methodist Guild Holidays I had travelled from Hampshire in my little car, packed to the roof with my belongings. I arrived at the front door of Moorlands to be welcomed by the cook and the Social Secretary but, as I walked through that door, I was aware of another presence. Over the years I began to realise that, where people gather to pray, the presence of God is somehow held in the atmosphere — it can be a great Cathedral or a humble home. All it needs is a few people, prayer and God.
It isn't just in buildings dedicated to prayer that God promises to be there; it is when we are together 'in his name'. It isn't just when we are praying; it is when we are gathered, with God in our thoughts.
The disciples knew the importance of gathering together.
Dear Lord, help us to remember, this day and every day your promise that wherever two or three are gathered in your name you are there. As we gather and meet others may we be aware of that presence with us.
