Minister Revd Helen Bell
We aim to Glorify God through Welcome, Witness and Worship"
Methodism arrived in our village in the1700's. The current premises on Boroughbridge Road were built in 1874, replacing buildings in Main Street and behind Zion Terrace; a school room was added in 1883.
Glass outer doors have been installed allowing the illuminated cross to be visible from the road. A digital projector has been installed in the Chapel to enhance worship activities. The school room is available for public meetings and children's parties. The Parish Council are one of several regular users
We offer a warm welcome to all who join us in worship, which commences at 10.30am each Sunday. Worship is led by our Minister, the Rev Helen Bell, other circuit ministers and Local Preachers. Holy Communion is celebrated once a month and a bi-monthly "Round the Table" worship replaces a sermon with conversation among those attending. At the end of each service we gather as a community in fellowship to enjoy a coffee or tea.
Our work with young people includes the Friday Evening Methodist Youth Club which meets at the Village Hall and currently has an attendance over 40..
Among mid-week activities are
a) Monday lunches in the school room, organised by Age UK.
b) Tuesday coffee mornings open to all, from 10am to 11.30am.
c) A Bible share programme run by email is supported by monthly meetings.
d) Lunches, coffee mornings and other events raise money, usually for other charitable causes, as well as providing a happy social occasion.
We are pleased to work in partnership with St John Baptist Parish Church and often hold joint services and events.
