West Tanfield is situated on a beautiful crossing over the river Ure downstream from Masham and upstream from Ripon.
The Methodist Church here consists of two buildings one built in the late 1700's and is a listed building with a caretakers cottage and a graveyard. The old gallery is still intact, though this building is now used as a hall. A monthly community lunch club run by the church is very popular for those wishing to meet up with friends this is helped by a modern kitchen.
The main church building is a stone building built in the early 1900's and though it is not listed is a work of art and a frequent place of call for those interested in fine architecture.
The worship here is encouraged to be varied. The welcome and sense of belonging is apparent from the very first visit and just gets better with time.
This Church endorses the use of modern equipment to enhance all that it does, using every means possible to resource a Christian mission in the local community.
Homemakers Group which meets, on the third Monday of each month, in the schoolroom
and usually start at 7.30p.m. However, our varied programme, decided by members, means we are often out and about during the summer months. Not all our members belong to a Church and everyone is very welcome..
