putting faith into action through church to community
Sunday 10:30 — Main Chapel
Minister Rev Kathleen Wood
At Bedale we are in exciting times — 2 years ago we celebrated the coming together of 3 congregations for mission. As hoped, this is offering new opportunities for growth in faith and service. We welcome all seek to worship God, share this journey with us, or to explore what it means to be a Christian in today's world. The church building is situated off the Market Place on Wycar. We are busy fundraising to enable us to refurbish the church and hall and bring them up to 21st century standards to better enable us to be a community building and further the mission of the church.
We have a regular monthly pattern of various worship styles (on Sundays and Wednesdays) both on and off-site. Every Sunday morning at 10.30 a.m. there is an act of worship in the Chapel. Each first Sunday of the month this is a communion service. Additional worship includes 9a.m. communion without sermon, the third Sunday of the month,; in October, December, February, April, June and August at 10.30a.m. worshippers also have the option enjoy the more informal café-style worship in the adjacent hall, and the third Sunday of September, November, January, March, May and July we have Messy Church in the nearby Dalescare Centre (at the end of Firby Road). The second Wednesday of the month there is a Prayer and Praise time at 7.30 p.m. in the hall, and in the same place, the third Wednesday is a healing prayer time, also at 7.30p.m.
Very soon we are embarking on a large, creative and imaginative development programme with the premises, joining together the 2 currently separate buildings, making the spaces we have more flexible, user-friendly and energy efficient, available for church and community use.
Well-served by many committed people we are also able to offer, on site, a variety of community activities — eg Coffee drop-in every Saturday morning, a monthly Women's get-together with speakers, monthly lunches, a craft group and occasional concerts. We lead monthly worship in 5 of the 6 Bedale and Leeming Bar Care, specialist Dementia care and residential homes.
A well-attended fortnightly fellowship/Bible study meets at the home of the Minister on a Monday evening, and there is a fortnightly Monday afternoon "Bible Conversation" at Carthorpe Chapel where around coffee and biscuits, members of both congregations share a less formal, more conversational style of reflecting on our lives and the impact on them of scripture.
We actively support the work of Hambleton Foodshare, Fair-Trade and provision for refugees/ Ripon City of Sanctuary Group along with other local, national and international support agencies.
We also host privately run Yoga classes
